VOA, MRTV to cooperate in programing, training

Burma’s state-run radio and television (MRTV) and the Voice of America (VOA) have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in program broadcasting, said The New Light of Myanmar.
The VOA will offer assistance in advanced equipment and conduct training courses for MRTV employees in technology, the newspaper said.
With the increased opening of the media sector in Burma, a number of foreign media such as DVB, CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera TV are seeking to enter the local TV market competitively.
A new media law may be implemented in July, according to officials.
Increased cooperation between Burma and the U.S. began following the visit of the U.S. Secretary of State in December 2011.
